Lovely

Today was actually pretty nice. I woke up early to watch the royal wedding of William and Kate before I went to work. Kate looked gorgeous! Her dress was very elegant and had just a touch of Grace Kelly-esque with the lace sleeves. I liked how it had a modern sweetheart cut with the scalloped lace v-neck. It was designed by Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen. It was said that she also did her own hair and make-up. It was very natural and not too over the top.

It was such a beautiful fairytale wedding. I'm glad I was able to see most of it before I went to work. All the main news networks started coverage at 4 am, but that was far too early to get up!  Kate arrived at Westminster Abbey at exactly 6 am our time. Prince William kept his back turned to her while she walked down the aisle for good luck. When he finally saw her, you could read his lips say, "you look beautifull". They really are an attractive couple and they looked so in love today. Later, when William and Kate appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, they kissed not once, but twice before thousands of people.

I'm not particularly in love with her bouquet, but I loved the way this picture captured the flowers, her hands, the rings, the lace and the tiny white buttons on her sleeves.

Now for a few hats from some of the wedding guests...

Princess Beatrice looks somewhat frightening here... not to mention the hat...

This picture of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie isn't quite as bad

Now, it's much later, and the day is nearly over. I had a nice dinner with my Mom and Mike. After everything was all cleaned up my Mom and I sat down and she wrote in the book she gave me for Christmas. It's a book filled with all types of questions for her to fill out. Questions about her childhood, marriage, friends, family etc. I did read what she wrote so far. She told me some of the stories she wrote have never been told so a few were emotional.

Yesterday I found an interesting book on the free table at work. I started reading it and couldn't put it down. I've been kind of busy tonight so I haven't gotten a chance to continue. I know I'll have time to read after I'm done posting because Ben got out of work at nine, but is going to a co-workers going away party after work. If it goes like last time he'll be drinking and I probably won't see him after. That's alright, I just worry about him drinking when he has so far to drive. The last thing I want to do is tell him he can't go out and have fun, because I want him to. Maybe I'm just a fuddy duddy, I don't know. I do admire how outgoing he is. I've always been a loner and never had many friends. I think I'm very socially awkward. No matter how hard I try to be more outgoing and friendly, it makes no difference. It's such a struggle for me in some social situations. Especially if there is a greater ratio of people I don't know at whatever event I may be at. I guess I'm afraid of what people will think of me.

Well, I am going out with the girls from work tomorrow afternoon for a going away get-together kind of thing for the one girl who's last day is Monday. I am friends with all the ones who are going at least. There are a few girls at work who I'm glad aren't going. I guess they're just not in our 'clique' haha. It will be nice to get out for a little bit. Maybe I can work on being more social? That won't really be a problem around them, because they already accept me for the weirdo I am!

All pensive & stuff

The weekend is here again and this time I'm working and fighting a cold. Work has been pretty unbearable, but what else is new? :)

I've been thinking a lot lately... I don't want to go into a lot of details. I strongly believe that everything you do leads you to where you are in your life. Maybe it's fate, I don't know. You may not realize it at the time, but if you look back on some decisions you've made, they've changed your life. I may have made a few mistakes (or a lot lol), but if I hadn't chose to do the things I did, I wouldn't be where I am today. I adore who I'm with and the line of work I do. I start thinking, oh I should have done this or that differently. If I did, I wouldn't be this piss poor lady who has found her true love. This life is hard without money, I know, but I'd much rather have an awesome family and the best guy a girl could ask for. So, I guess I'm trying to say that I'm happy where I am right now.

Tonight I'm going to Ben's house to check on the dog. While I'm there I'm going to make him his favorite Chinese dish. He loves my pork patties with pineapple and different veggies. I'm going to make him a cherry pie for dessert too. I think he'll be happy with all that! I'm going to take a little nap and then head over. After today, I need to close my eyes for a few minutes.

A very productive weekend

It's unbelievable how quickly a weekend goes when you're busy! On Saturday Ben and I hung out at my house because we were having our family Easter dinner. We had it a week early because all four of us had the day off. Mike (my Mom's boyfriend) and I both work next weekend. So, once we got to my house in the morning, Ben started rooting my cell phone in hopes that giving it a new brain may save it's stupid life. Can you tell my phone and I don't have the best of relationships with each other? Damn phone... anyway, it took him about three hours to do this procedure, so I decided to clean. Oh, and did I clean! I even vacuumed! My room looks 100% cleaner than it did.

Today my Mom and Mike made breakfast which was nice. Then I did three loads of laundry and got to hang them up on the clothesline! I love the smell of clean clothes dried outside on the line. It was absolutely gorgeous out today. After all that was done, Mom and I took a drive out to BJ's because she had a free 60 day trial membership to try out. She ended up getting a 14 month membership because they had some decent deals. We did a few more errands and then headed home to dye our hair. A little while ago I took a hot bath to relax. Before you know it, it'll be time for sleep and morning will be here. Ben was supposed to come over to see me, but I probably won't see him until tomorrow. Ugh... I'm so not looking forward to work in the morning.

A makeover & some shoes!

On my day off Wednesday I decided that my blog really looked like crap. It had too much of a melancholy feel to it. So lo and behold it is changed! I even put the picture and title thing together. Yeah, it's no big deal, but I think it came out kinda cute! On a weird note...

...I thought these guys were pretty cool
I could totally rock these babies!

These are so awesome. Too bad they're $54.99 and sold out. Who am I kidding? I have no money! Haha

I love how these shoes have two patterns and are my favorite red. Dorky shoes for a dorky girl!! :) These one's are unavailable as well. I really like them though...

This site had A LOT of other really strange shoes as well...

Yeah... I don't think so. They're only an affordable $149.50, So for that cheap who cares! I'll take three pairs!

Other than that, my night was pretty good. I went out to dinner with a few friends and hung out for a little bit. I originally had plans to take a nice long walk and crochet when I got home, but that didn't happen. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Ben is out of work now and on his way over to see me. A good day turns into a great night :)

A Perfectly Awesome Weekend Getaway!!

Ben and I decided for our one year anniversary that we would go away. It took a little while to decide where we wanted to go. We thought maybe we'd go to Boston, but found that it was difficult to find a reasonably priced hotel near a subway station. Plus it was a five hour drive from here. Then we thought we'd go to Washington DC like we did last year to see the cherry blossoms. That was less expensive, but it's been so cold for this time of year. Last year it was warm and sunny when we went, it was so amazing. DC's only a four hour drive which isn't too bad. Then we came to the conclusion of Gettysburg! We were able to get an awesome price for our hotel which included a hot tub! Also, it was only a three hour drive.

We left after Ben got out of work on the 30th and got to Gettysburg around 11pm. It was so nice to just relax! We both needed a little escape from our daily lives. It's so nice to get away with my honey! I can't believe how fast a year has gone.

So the first full day we were there was a very busy day. We started the day by going to the Visitor's Center to get a CD we could put in our car to tour us through the battlefield. We ended up finding one that was a little cheaper at the American Civil War Museum. It took us about three hours to do and was really neat! Ben and I were both surprised how informative and interesting the CD was. We thought it might be really corny and boring. I'm glad we were proven wrong!

After that we went back to the Visitor's Center and took a tour of the Cyclorama, watched a little movie about the Civil War, and then went through the museum they have. The Cyclorama was amazing! It's this painting that's 300 and some odd feet around by 30 some odd feet high. They had it displayed so nicely with different props at the bottom that blended in with the painting. It felt like you were standing in the middle of the battlefield as the fight was going on. The museum was pretty cool too. It had lots of Civil War items and uniforms etc.

Once we were done there it was probably about 5pm. We went back to the hotel and got cleaned up and got ready for our anniversary dinner. We decided to go to the Appalachian Brewing Company because last year we had gone to Capitol City Brewing Company in Washington DC. We each had a stout beer and poutine (our ALL TIME favorite Canadian snack) for an appetizer. For dinner Ben had a delicious burger and I had fish and chips. I think my fish won the dinner contest betwixt the two of us. We always try each other's food or drinks because we're just that dorky! Then we decide which one's we like better.

If you think we had done enough that day, you are sorely mistaken! After dinner, though a little tipsy, we took a ghost tour. That only lasted about an hour and had some neat ghost stories. Ben doesn't believe in that kind of thing and wasn't scared. I was a little freaked out when our tour guide took us out in a field that a battle occurred on and where mass graves once were. So needless to say, we crammed everything we possibly could in that day!

We still had one more day to do things before we went home. So on Saturday we drove out to see Sach's covered bridge which was used by both the union and confederate soldiers during the Civil War. It was a beautiful bridge and we got some really nice pictures. We got a little over 500 pictures during our trip. It was at the bridge that Ben's camera died so I had to used my camera on my phone after that. Once we drove back to town we took the Jennie Wade House tour. Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed during the battle of Gettysburg. You could still see where the bullet came through two doors of the house and shot her in the back. After all that was done we ate lunch at Hunt's Battlefield Fries. We each had a cheese steak (possibly the best we've ever had) and cheese fries. Finally, it was time for us to leave. We had such a nice time! I love when Ben and I go away for a few days. It's great spending time with someone you love.

Everything else has been good. Mom and I started a diet and have both lost about 5lbs each. I just have to start going to the gym again! Well, I'll post a few pictures of our trip :)
